I haven't read the books, but if the movies are at all accurate, I'd have to say that Frodo's odds of survival would've been pretty freaking low w/o Sam. Talk about a character who gets his ass in a sling quite a bit!
Frankly, I think Anna would make a better "Despair Lady" than I would - but I didn't want to be Gollum. Hee.
