in a new york minute....hey, wait

You know what I just realized? If I wait until I can be coherent about this past weekend, I won’t be able to post my reactions for approximately another HUNDRED AND TWELVE YEARS.
So, basically what I’m saying is, "screw coherence." *sunny smile*
There was the breakfast thing, which was made of awesome, and right as soon as the door opened and Jensen walked in, there was a moment I was afraid I was going to, I don’t know, fall over or cry or start jumping up and down. (I didn’t.) I had been looking forward to this con for so long, and to seeing the boys for so long, and it was finally happening...it’s a fangirl thing, I know.
Here, have a poor-quality picture of the boys – this is right after they both got into the room.

I’ll get this out there right upfront; it was very, very obvious how much those two care for each other. There's this overwhelming sense of affection and, yeah, love they have for one another – it’s not an overtly sexual kind of vibe they gave off, but. I’m not explaining this well. If I had to sum up the energy between the two of them in one word, I’d go with “adoration.” Clearly, Jensen is one of the most important people in Jared’s life, and vice-versa.
*rereads* This is the me who thinks her RPS is broken?? Hm.
Anyway. Their interaction at the breakfast was adorable/adorkable. It is also quite clear that the other true love of Jensen’s life? Is coffee. It might’ve been easier on the poor boy had the wait staff been able to fix him up an IV drip of the stuff.
I took notes at the J2 panels so there would be some degree of accuracy in what I remembered, but it turns out I didn’t need to – there are several places you can go to see the footage with your own eyes. If you haven’t checked it out, I HIGHLY recommend you do so.
On to the commentary.
1. The boys? Are every bit as adorable, funny, personable, affectionate, gorgeous, and wonderful in person as we’ve always heard. Honestly, it was like watching a couple of best friends hanging out – which, I guess, is exactly what it was.
2. Jensen. (*swoons*) Lord. I’ll admit, there was a teeny part of me that was thinking, okay, he can’t possibly be as gorgeous in person as he is on TV, what with the filters and the lenses and the makeup blah blah blah. Well, whaddya know: he is. Just. Damn. That is one pretty, pretty man.
3. Jared! Prior to this weekend, I was more or less “yes, yes, he’s very nice looking; can we go back to Jensen now?” But! Having encountered the Padalecki in person – he’s, um. Overwhelming? (And I do mean that in an entirely positive way.) He’s ginormous. A lot thinner than he looks on screen, but so. Freaking. Tall.
Another thing – I know a lot of guys who happen to be six feet tall or better, and all of them tend to be very conscious of how they use their space: IOW, they try to keep their gestures and body language relatively reined in. Jared? Not so much. When he laughs, he throws his head back; when he talks with his hands, it’s not just his hand, it’s the whole arm, from the shoulder on down. And, oh my gosh, the boy can not sit still! There was a chair on stage for each of them to sit in while they did their Q and A; Jensen plopped down on his and stayed there for the entire half hour. Jared was up and down, leaning to look backstage, leaning forward on his knees – basically, wiggling like a five year old. Adorable.
4. More on Jared: again, I’m saying this in a totally positive way – the boy needs a sitter. Their schedule was very tight, and each of them had an assistant-type person whose job appeared to be to keep them on track. Jensen probably could’ve done without his – apparently, he’s not the chatty type (unless he’s chatting with Jared, of course) – but I almost felt bad for Jared’s minder. In the autograph line, it seemed like he was trying for conversations with just about everyone, and the poor woman kept repeating his name in a gentle-yet-firm voice – you know, like you do with your kid when you’re trying to be subtle about reminding them of their manners or some such.
5. Quotes that I made sure to copy down exactly so I got them right: (again, you can see all this stuff on Youtube or wherever, but these lines delighted my little fangirl heart):
*(Jensen is asked about the emotional scenes he’s had to do, and he references AHBL 1 – talking about how he spends so much time with Jared, that looking at him and thinking what it would feel like if this was real, if Jared was really dying – made it easier to tap into the emotion of the scene – and he says, IRT Jared, “He’s practically a brother to me anyway.”
The response from the crowd is a huge “awwwww,” to which he does the “shuuuuuuut uuuuuuuuuup,” in that drawn-out, cut-it-out-will-ya kind of voice.)
* (Jared comes out on stage after his “anonymous” question; Jensen leaves, and as he does so, Jared settles back into the chair, sprawling like the hugemungous man he is – with a parting glance at Jensen, he tells us “all right, we can smartify the questions now.”)
* (JP is asked about the way he’s playing Sam this year, especially IRT that whole 'is it 100% Sam?' thing – he answers at length, but winds it up with “I started to bring out the Dean in Sam” this year. *squee*)
*not so much with the exact quotes on this one – I have a thing for boys with southern accents, so I was kind of hoping we’d get to hear a word or two in the drawl from at least one of them. OH NO, THEY BOTH GOT THEIR TEXAS ON – there was a “reckon” and a “shoot” (“sheeee-oot”) and an “I’m’onna” and, just, guh.
*JP is asked about playing the badass: he leans back, sprawling some more, and (oh yes, I am going to go ahead and use this word) purrs, “I’m not playin’, sweetie.”
And then - then there was the Master Sergeant presentation. Seriously: if you watch no other clips, you have to check out that one. The boys were so, so moved – Jared kept mouthing the word “wow,” and at one point he kind of turns away from the crowd; he used the time to set something down, but I honestly think he needed a moment to compose himself.
They were both very, very touched – Jensen did most all of the talking at that point (unlike the rest of the day), thanking the officer and such – and it appeared that he took the lead because Jared was too choked up to speak.
Here; the quality of the pic is lousy, but just check out the look on Jared’s face.

It was. Just. Expensive, and exhausting, and amazing, and totally, totally worth it. It’s been two days, and I’m just now coming down off the con high. I’ve done cons before, but this was my first “official” con, what with Famous People and whatnot, and I’d absolutely do it again.
ETA: Oh! K! I knew there was something else I wanted to mention to you! One of Jared's questions was about which of Sam's love interests he'd most like to see come back - and he said Sarah! He felt there was a connection between her and Sam, and he felt it'd been left open in such a way that they could see her again. Woo-hoo!
So, basically what I’m saying is, "screw coherence." *sunny smile*

Date: 2007-11-14 05:17 am (UTC)I've seen a lot of the clips from the con and the boys were just adorable! While I am a Dean girl on the show, I would TOTALLY want to hang out with Jared in real life. I think he would be a hoot.
Girl, you're so lucky!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the experience!
